Lunaria Love

Lunaria Love is a small local brand that specializes in handmade crafts, primarily soaps and sticker sheets. Their brand aesthetic is very girly, pastel, and inspired by 90’s magical girl anime. The brand hopes to inspire retro nostalgia while still keeping a modern, timeless look.

The Challenge

The branding for Lunaria Love was done entirely from scratch. The owner knew that she wanted a retro, magical girl aesthetic, but everything else was up in the air. With a lot of freedom in a design comes a lot of indecision on top of all the possibilities.

The biggest challenge and goal in this project was to find a design that was clean and simple, yet still versatile that it could be used across any and all platforms and mediums, as well as leave room for the business owner to expand if she chooses to later on.

Mid-Process Thoughts

The sketching phase was particularly difficult here.

The client gave full creative freedom and she seemed on board to fully let me take the reigns. I knew I wanted to include a lot of sparkles and to run with the rainbow gradient theme, just because it was something that the client gravitated toward initially and it’s fitting for the overly cute aesthetic of the vibe that she was going for.

In the end, I chose to keep it fairly simple with a focus on versatility and letting the client’s overall products shine.

Final Look

Reflection

Overall, I think I achieved my goal of helping to establish a brand that captures that girlish charm that the client was looking for. It’s a clean design that allows for versatility across the brand as a whole.

Going forward, I think I would talk with the client about the possibility of adding some more illustrative elements or creating a squad of magical girl characters to fit the theme.
